The role of Dermocosmetics in Acne management discussed in symposia organised across five Indian cities
Leading Indian dermatologists discussed the role of dermocosmetics in modern acne treatment at symposia organised, by INVIDA in five major cities – Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Ahmedabad and Mumbai from 25th-29th June 2012.
Speaking on the occasion Dr (Prof) Giuseppe Micali, Head of Department of Dermatology,University of Catania,Italysaid: “New generation of cosmetic products, have effects on the skin and are commonly defined as Cosmeceuticals. Pharmacological treatment for acne, remain the main approach but the use of cosmetics may contribute to clinical improvement. Physicians should be competent about the properties of these new generations of cosmetics they prescribe. A correct cosmetic approach enhances physician’s credibility and patient’s compliance. Cosmetology is a science and dermatologists are the only ones who know and are able to manage it.”

Dr Sushil Tahiliani, MD, D.V& D said: “Acne management has undergone a sea change and we as dermatologists can boast of being able to offer a ‘one stop shop’ treating the condition comprehensively(medical management of acne, underlying hormonal disorders, procedures for treating acne and marks, lasers for accompanying hirsutism, lasers and surgical procedures for acne scars). Managing acne is a serious issues which needs a sound knowledge of skin, pharmacology and endocrinology and skin surgery”
