The Indian economy is passing through a very critical phase. On one side, we have a Government trying its best to deliver programmes aimed at inclusive growth for the ‘common man’ despite its tight fiscal situation, and on the other side, we have the industry that is struggling yet innovating to tide over the recessionary pressures and deliver affordable and accessible services to the same ‘common man’.

Given this scenario, it is important that the Government and industry work together, to take India on the path to prosperity. Considering this the Disease Management Association of India will be hosting a Government Industry Dialogue on 28th September at Hotel Le Meridian, Delhi.

This will be attended by officials from PMO & various ministries involved in healthcare. It will house 50 CEO’s of the healthcare industry across large, medium and small size companies would give adequate representation to the entire healthcare industry.

According to Rajendra P Gupta, Co-Chair of the Government Industry Dialogue, “If industry is the one we need to work with, then they are the ones to talk with’! The Government needs to talk with the industry, and create an understanding for a common goal, develop a frame-work to bring complementary capabilities on the table, and change the way we do everything. There are industry bodies, but looking at the current scenario and the reports in media, it appears that, they have failed to bridge the ‘divide’ between the Government and the industry; rather have increased the divide.”

He further added, “Due to lack of a neutral platform, both Government and industry have developed a level of ‘mutual distrust’ and this is coming down heavily on the investors and negatively impacting the sentiments across the industry. This needs to end soon to lift up the sentiment and boost the morale!  So, we decided that, rather than ‘fuming’ in isolation and resorting to the ‘blame game’ for the current situation, let’s start talking with all the stake holders. We believe that, together we can accomplish the impossible! And so with this goal, we have initiated this Government Industry Dialogue and we promise to turn around things together, working shoulder to shoulder.”

The second Government Industry Dialogue is likely to be held in January, 2013 at Delhi, wherein the industry will come and present how it can make a difference to the Government programs through investments, employment generation, and partnering implementation and outcomes of the various programmes where the industry wants to actively engage and participate with the Government.

Subsequently, the Government Industry Dialogue will focus on every national and regional program, and evolve the frame work for joint working of the industry with the Government on various programs.
