Polio is one vaccination that is extremely essential for the Indian population; over the years the government has taken the initiative to provide these vaccines free of cost in all states to insure the irradication of this disease from its root. The pulse polio Immunisation program is scheduled to be held in Allahabad from Sep 25th till 30th this year. It is estimated that around ten lakh children under five years would be administered polio drops in this campaign.
A total of 3,479 polio booths have been set up in the district to make the vaccine more accessible to the people. In this regard a meeting was held earlier this week which was presided over by the District Magistrate (DM) where instructions were issued regarding taking strict action against vaccinators who remained absent during the last pulse polio campaign.
The private hospitals are also playing a major role in providing services of vaccination. Jeevan Jyoti Hospital, a private organisation will be a part of this campaign. Dr Ajax Gopal, HOD Paediatrics’, Jeevan Jyoti Hospital, Allahabad said, “The state of polio affected people has decreased in our country due to the initiative taken by the government. Our hospital is not just a part of the campaign but we also provide free vaccines and check up in our hospitals for pulse polio.” He added, “We are on the path of perfection. Polio can be eradicated completely if we start using the injectable polio vaccines. These vaccines are available in a few private hospitals and cost Rs 450 a dose, a dose includes five vaccines and the amount of this vaccine is not affordable for all the people in the country. If the government makes this vaccination free and accessible to all in the nation, we can definitely overcome this disease.”
